At Boreing Vision Clinic, our Lake Charles eye doctor is committed to optimizing your eye and vision health. If you spend a lot of time in front of digital screens on a regular basis (whether it be a computer screen, television, or smartphone screen), our eye care team wants you to be aware of the potential dangers exposure to these screens can have on your eyes over time.
Digital screens emit a type of light known as blue light; this type of lighting is also emitted from fluorescent lights, LED lights, and CFL bulbs. However, because of the amount of time people are spending in front of screens these days (and the proximity of the eyes to the screen), there have been some recent concerns regarding blue light exposure and eye health, despite the fact that blue light is actually good for you in small doses. Specifically, it is believed that too much blue light exposure can prematurely age the eyes, which may make you more prone to:
If you spend a lot of time exposed to blue light each day, the good news is that there are steps you can take to protect your eyes. For starters, be sure to take breaks from the screen as often as possible. Even a 20-second break every 20 minutes can make all the difference. You may also want to look into getting a pair of computer glasses with blue-light-blocking lenses. These are available from your Lake Charles eye doctor; these glasses have yellow-tinted lenses that helps reduce the amount of blue light that reaches the eyes. They also have an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare.
If you're concerned about your exposure to blue light, it may be time to schedule an appointment with our Lake Charles optometrist. Give Boreing Vision Clinic a call today to schedule your eye care appointment and take advantage of our new patient special!
